WORK VISAS & PERMITS

Foreign workers who intend to work in the Philippines generally need to obtain a work visa. The type of work visa required depends on the nature and duration of their employment in the country.

Pre-Arranged (Commercial) Employee Visa (9g)

Nature of visa

This visa (9g) is a working visa that allows employers/proprietors to employ foreign nationals with skills, qualifications and experience that may be short in supply in the Philippines. 

Who may appy

A foreign national applying for a pre-arranged employee visa must be employed by a Philippine employer. It is the Philippine employer who will be applying for the foreign employee's pre-arranged employee visa as his/her petitioner.

Validity

May be fore initial periods of one (1), two (2) or three years (3) validity on your 9(g) Pre-Arranged Employees – Commercial visa. Validity may also be extended for one (1), two (2) or three year (3) years depending on the Employer-Employee Contract.

Relevant Information

If the duration of the employment is less than six months, a Special Work Permit (SWP) application may be submitted to the authorities. If the employment is for more than six months, the foreigner shall apply for an AEP.

If the foreign employee has dependents with him, they may convert their Temporary Visitor's Visa as dependents under his/her Pre-Arranged Employees – Non-commercial visa. They will be granted the same validity as the principal applicant. They may also apply for extension.

Note that if children of the foreign employee will study in the Philippines, they will be allowed to study in the country by schools accredited by the Bureau of Immigration. Since they are dependents under the 9g visa of the foreign employee, the children will no longer be required to apply for a Student Visa or Special Study Permit (SSP)

Pre-Arranged Employee Visa (9g) for Missionaries

Nature of visa

This visa (9g) is a working visa that allows foreign nationals who are members of religious or educational institutions to work in the Philippines.

Wh0 may apply

Applicant must be a bona fide member of an educational or religious organization in the Philippines and must be endorsed for such visa by the organization

Validity

May be fore initial periods of one (1), two (2) or three years (3) validity on your 9(g) Pre-Arranged Employees – Commercial visa. Validity may also be extended for one (1), two (2) or three year (3) years depending on the Employer-Employee Contract.

PEZA VISA

Nature of Visa

Visa granted to employees or investors in enterprises registered with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).

Who pay apply

Foreign nationals employed by Philippine-based enterprise registered with PEZA.

Validity

Relevant Information

Valid for 1 to 2 years.

In applying for a PEZA visa, the validity applied, e.g. 1 or 2 years must correspond to the validity of the AEP to avoid complications.
